Readers Cafe/Drink Coffee, Support Librairies/Fort Mason Center

Pros: The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library raise money the old-fashioned way. They feed us.
Cons: Adjacent to one of the city's most unusual donation-only bookstores, which means passing the better part of the afternoon in browse mode
Best For: Drinking a cup of Blue Bottle coffee while reading the $2 book you just bought next door

The motto: "Drink coffee, support libraries"
Location: Fort Mason Center waterfront, building C, Southern end
The menu: Wine, beer, coffee, rotating daily dishes, cookies and treats
Ambiance: A quiet place to pull out the laptop or sit and, duh, read

Readers CafelReaders Cafe is run by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, as is the adjacent bookstore, Book Bay Fort Mason. The cafe is open daily from 9am-6pm and gives one the perfect excuse to hang at the historic waterfront. Choose to ignore the to-do list. Peruse the vast selection of used books and buy a cuppa coffee. All proceeds benefit the libraries. Consider becoming a member of Friends. They are hard at work, renovating and building 16 branch libraries. Monthly events enrich the community.
