Warming Hut/Crissy Field/Presidio

Pros: Location, location, hot chocolate
Cons: Weekends are for tourists
Best For: Dashing inside for a warm beverage

Warming Hut
The Warming Hut is aptly named, situated on the Western end of the Crissy Field Promenade, where the wind blows through the Golden Gate, and the orange-hued iconic bridge arcs from city to rugged headlands North. In front of the Hut the fishing pier juts out into the tempestuous bay where the kite surfers play. Exposed to the elements and the heavily oxygenated SF air, the body begins to crave something hot to warm the a hot chocolate with whipped cream on top.

There's a menu of sandwiches, salads, cookies, teas and coffees and an eco-friendly gift shop with a good selection of books and maps pertaining to recreation in the city.

Operated by the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy, this historic warehouse was recently renovated using green products, including recycled denim cotton wall insulation and salvaged wood for floors and furniture. Dollars spent here, go directly into the park system and members of the GGNPC get a 20% discount on store items.
