Hotel Union Square/Union Square

Pros: Centrally located
Cons: Urban noise
Best For: The kids suite

Hotel Union Square

Built in 1913, Hotel Union Square is right on the Powell Cable Car line, surrounded by shops and restaurants. Choices include Sleep and Soak Rooms, 2 Penthouse Suites with private decks, or if traveling with your progeny, the well-equipped Kids Suite. Only drawback, no fridge for storing cold goodies.

Noteworthy: Dashiell Hammet (author of The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man) had his fiance spend the night here before they were married, and a suite is named in his honor.
