Terroir Natural Wine Merchant and Bar/SOMA

Pros: Natural wines from traditional old-world producers in France, Italy and other wine-enthused countries
Cons: May prompt spontaneous booking of flights to Europe
Best For: Sharing cheese plates, charcuterie and wine that tastes like the land it was grown on

The natural wine movement was begun by Frenchman Jules Chauvet (1907-1989). What is natural wine? When traditional old-world producers implement organic and dry farming techniques using indigenous yeast fermentation and no added chemicals, the result is a wine that is representative of the soil, climate and growing conditions of a particular vineyard. At Terroir, let your tasting guides transport you to Umbria or Beaujolais. The music is sweet and the room has personality. Bring a bottle home and make a reservation for one of their Natural Wine Week's three course dinners paired with the good stuff. Check website for dates.
