Spire, by Andy Goldsworthy

English artist Andy Goldsworthy 's Spire sits on a hill ensconced by Presidio forest, with a view of San Francisco Bay. Using unhealthy felled cypress logs, forty of them to be precise, he has pressed them together on a single trunk which tapers at the top.

Newly planted trees around its base will someday rise around the sculpture and blend it into the environment. Thus it is an evolving art piece.

Goldsworthy's most recent Presidio project is called Wood Line, adjacent to Lovers Lane. It was
completed in the summer of 2011.
