Blue Waters Kayaking/ Tomales Bay/North of SF

Pros: A water adventure
Cons: The winds come up in the afternoon, making for a strenuous return
Best For: Paddling 1 mile across the bay to a secluded beach

Blue Waters Kayaking

Drive an hour north of SF, bring lunch and rent a kayak from Blue Waters Kayaking in Marshall. Arrive in the morning when the wind has not picked up yet and bay waters are still. Seabirds and harbor seals might accompany you across this 1-mile-wide body of water as you pick a landing spot among several beach coves on the other side.

Bring a friend and rent a 2-man kayak. Blue Waters will provide wetsuits and life vests and give a brief paddling demonstration. At low tide, prepare for a muddy beach landing.

Once the domain of the Miwok Indians, today Tomales Bay is known for its oyster farming, supplying many of SF's restaurants with the freshest and the best.

Noteworthy: Blue Waters also offers kayaking vacations in Belize, Croatia, Baja California and other exotic locations around the world.
