Wine Tasting at Unti Vineyards/Healdsburg

Pros: Red varietals, fruity, full-bodied, produced by artisanal methods
Cons: None
Best For: A family-owned winery, boldly innovative and yet old-world

Unti Vineyards grows grapes found in the Mediterranean wine-growing regions, here in California. The Unti family finds Dry Creek Valley to be perfect for the big, bold fruity red wines known for their full-bodied impact.

Established in 1997, approximately 6500 to 7500 cases of wine are produced per year, small lots, all aged in French oak barrels. Grapes such as Montepulciano and Sangiovese seem to be well-suited to the topography and climate of Unti's vineyards, grapes rarely seen in the U.S.

Wine tastings are by appointment, but don't let that scare you off. You can reserve online, or if same-day, by phone. It makes sense, as tastings are scheduled half an hour apart. This allows for a very personal experience.

The wines are the stars here, with big personalities, produced by a family of winemakers who clearly deserve great accolades. Get on the email list and order online if you can't make it to the tasting room.

Bravo, Unti!
