Walking The Golden Gate Bridge

Pros: Killer vantage point from atop a beloved icon
Cons: Bundle up
Best For: A quintessential SF experience

Golden Gate Bridge

Walk halfway across the Golden Gate Bridge, any time, any weather and revel in 360 degrees of scenic beauty. The remarkable feat of engineering completed in 1937, is about to celebrate a 75th anniversary, with a year-long agenda of activities commencing in May, 2012. Construction of a new visitor pavilion and upgrades to the Art Deco Bridge Cafe are underway.

Avoid midday on weekends when the sun is shining unless you want to be inadvertently snapshotted by hoards of visitors experiencing the bridge on foot and by bicycle. Walk out on the bridge before the tour buses park and unload, or late afternoon when the fog is blowing in.
